This game uses hysterical relationships within the family alongside with creepy game aspects in order to create an interesting and unforetold narrative that is understood only by completing the game. Within this twisted family, Maria (the maid), also knew about what was happening but still loved Aya and the Father. The mother was murdered because she learned of his plot to make Aya into a doll which Aya finds out afterward. Aya discovers later that her beautiful mother was murdered by her father and was made into a doll to preserve her beauty. As you play through the game, it is obvious that she finds creepy unusual things which connect to her father and his interests. Aya, 11, tries to find her father because she is scared (her mother has passed away a year ago). The game starts as waking up in the middle of the night because monsters are swarming the hallways. The “good” ending is the main path to follow and following this path will complete the game. The game is much like a visual novel where your choices will influence the result. There are 3 different endings where only one end is the “good ending”.

The style of this game is an early Japanese anime style which is also seen in other games made for the PSP around this time (Corpse Party etc.). The game is a 2D, free-roaming game which requires you to solve puzzles to finish the game. Mad Father is a game created by the Japanese developer Sen (popularly known as Miscreant’s room) which stars you, as the main character Aya, to uncover the secrets of her family.
